OFFICE PROCEDURES

In-Office Procedures, Without the Extra Trip

On-Site Diagnostic & Minor Procedures

Many procedures that would otherwise mean a referral and a wait can be handled right here at Family Care of Chilhowie. Our clinical team, led by Dr. Gerard Murphy, performs a range of diagnostic and minor procedural services on-site, so you get answers and treatment faster — often in the same visit where the need is identified.

What We Offer

Joint and bursae injections

Targeted injections to reduce pain and inflammation in joints such as the knee, shoulder, or hip.

Splint and brace fitting

Stabilization for minor fractures, sprains, and strains, fitted on-site.

EKGs

A quick, non-invasive test that records your heart's electrical activity — useful for evaluating chest pain, irregular heartbeat, or as part of a pre-procedure workup.

Respiratory fit testing

Required testing to confirm that a respirator mask fits properly and seals correctly, often needed for occupational health requirements.

Pulmonary function testing

Measures how well your lungs are working, used to help diagnose and monitor conditions like asthma and COPD.

Tympanometry

A hearing-related test that checks how well your eardrum moves, helping diagnose middle ear issues.

Pap smears

Routine cervical cancer screening as part of women's preventive care.

Ingrown toenail removal

In-office treatment for a painful but common problem.

Minor surgeries

A range of minor surgical procedures performed safely in-office, avoiding the cost and wait of a surgical center for straightforward cases.

What to Expect

Most office procedures are scheduled in advance, though some — like a joint injection following an exam — may be done the same day your provider identifies the need. Your provider will explain what the procedure involves, any preparation needed, and what recovery looks like before moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my procedure be done the same day, or do I need a separate appointment?
It depends on the procedure. Some, like an ingrown toenail removal or joint injection, can often be done during the same visit. Others may be scheduled separately to allow proper preparation. Your provider will let you know.
No. These are all services we provide directly, without needing to send you to an outside specialist or surgical center.
Many employers require respiratory fit testing for employees who use respirators on the job. Check with your employer, and we can perform the test here.
