Vaccinations, Allergy Shots & B12 Injections

From your child’s routine vaccinations to your seasonal flu shot, Family Care of Chilhowie keeps your family protected. We also administer ongoing allergy shots for patients managing immunotherapy prescribed by an allergist, along with B12 injections for patients who need them — all without an extra trip outside our office.

What We Offer

Flu shots

Seasonal influenza vaccinations for patients of all ages, typically available starting in early fall.

Childhood vaccinations

Vaccines administered on the recommended pediatric schedule as part of well-child visits.

Adult vaccinations

Recommended vaccines for adults, including boosters and age-appropriate immunizations.

Allergy shot administration

Ongoing administration of allergy immunotherapy shots prescribed by your allergist, given locally so you don't have to travel for each dose.

Vitamin B12 injections

Administered for patients with a medical need, as determined by your provider.

What to Expect

Most vaccinations and injections are quick, in-and-out visits. For childhood vaccinations, your provider will review the recommended schedule and what to expect afterward, including common, mild side effects. For allergy shots, you’ll typically be asked to wait briefly in the office afterward to monitor for any reaction, per standard allergy immunotherapy protocol.

When should I get my flu shot?
Early fall, before flu season picks up, is generally the best time, though flu shots remain available throughout the season.
Often, yes — many patients have their immunotherapy prescribed by an allergist and receive ongoing shots locally. Bring your allergist’s instructions when you schedule.
Typically during the same well-child visit, on the schedule recommended for your child’s age — though we can also schedule a vaccination-only visit if needed.

Jessica Reynolds

FNP-C
Jessica Reynolds, FNP-C, is an AANP Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. With 19 years of medical experience, her background encompasses case management, hospice care, home health, cardiology, and pediatrics. Jessica’s nursing career began in 2007 as a Registered Nurse following her graduation from Virginia Highlands Community College. She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from King University in 2009 and completed her Masters of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University in May 2025. Jessica is dedicated to providing excellent care to the local community. She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners. Outside of her professional life, Jessica is a devoted mother of four—three daughters and one son. She is from Smyth County and resides in Rich Valley with her husband and her children on their farm. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, traveling, and engaging in outdoor activities: camping, raising cattle and goats, and riding horses.

Rebecca B. Nash

FNP
Rebecca B. Nash, FNP is a lifelong resident of Chilhowie, Virginia. She has been providing healthcare to patients in her hometown at Greever Clinic/Family Care of Chilhowie since 1999. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University in 1995 and worked as a Registered Nurse at Bristol Regional Medical Center until completing graduate school through the University of Virginia earning a Master of Science in Nursing in 1999. She is AANP and ANCC certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also a FMCSA certified medical examiner and performs physicals for commercial motor vehicle drivers. She is married to JD Nash and they have three children, James, Eden, and River. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys lots of family time.

Gerard H. Murphy

M.D
Gerard H. Murphy, M.D. is Board Certified in family practice and resides in Chilhowie, Virginia with his wife Jennifer and two boys Connor and Kyle. His undergraduate degree was in chemical engineering. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1990, Magna cum laude. Graduate studies were at the University of Connecticut Medical School in Farmington, Connecticut, graduating in 1994. Residency was completed at Middlesex Community Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut in 1997; he was selected by his peers to be Chief Resident in his final year of residency. He moved to Chilhowie in 1997 to join the Family Care of Chilhowie Practice and has been in continuous practice there for more than 20 years. He felt a calling to choose family medicine and practice in a rural, underserved area to help the broadest range of patients where high quality health care is needed most. Hobbies include basketball, golf, restoring classic cars, and enjoying the great outdoors.
